PROJECTS
ACHIEVE is a five-year, USAID-funded global cooperative agreement with the dual objectives of attaining and sustaining HIV epidemic control among at-risk and hard to reach pregnant and breastfeeding (PBF) women, infants, children, and youth, as well as to mitigate the impact of HIV/ AIDS and prevent HIV transmission among these populations; and supporting the transition of prime funding and implementation to capable local partners in order to meet the PEPFAR goal of 70% of funding to local partners.
The goal of the ACHIEVE project is to improve access to HIV-inclusive services to improve the health and social well-being of orphans and vulnerable children (OVC).
The implementing partners will ensure that the project contribute to the following ACHIEVE Strategic Objectives in Tanzania:
- Strategic Objective 1: To strengthen the capacity of the national and community-level social services workforce, systems, and structures to ensure quality services for OVC, at-risk AGYW, and people living with HIV (PLHIV)
- Strategic Objective 2: To strengthen the capacity of local organizations to manage and implement OVC and DREAMS interventions
- Strategic Objective 3: To deliver high quality OVC services and DREAMS interventions for AGYW 9-14 years
Mwanza Outreach Care and Support Organization is implementing the CPRC/ USAID Uzazi Staha project in 2 councils of Tanzania Mainland which are Misungwi DC and Ukerewe DC. The project aims to support Global Vaccines Access (VAX) initiative effort, and rapidly accelerate the uptake of COVID-19 vaccines to reach 70 percent of the eligible population through social behaviors change (SBC) and community-based interventions by generating demand for COVID-19 vaccines. The project is taking a facilitative approach in supporting the R/CHMTs in ensuring they have the technical insight, resources, and structures they need to successfully lead the implementation of macro- and micro-plans for increasing COVID19 vaccine uptake.
CPRC/USAID Uzazi Staha Project is aimed at making impact through assessing vaccination demand creation and community mobilization, also using of community scorecards approach to identify major concerns around COVID-19 vaccines, create locally driven solutions to combat vaccine hesitancy/misinformation while strengthening linkages between facility and community health services, to accelerate COVID 19 vaccines uptake by focusing on removing barriers to COVID 19 vaccines uptake through community mobilization, community scorecards, gender-norm dialogues in the community groups and SBC campaigns using IEC materials and mass media.
Mwanza Outreach Care and Support Organization is implementing the USAID Afya Yangu project in Ukerewe District Council. The project is aimed to increase the demand for and use of quality integrated Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) services in target regions in Tanzania Mainland. Particularly by women and youth leading to improve health outcomes and to address social and gender norms and inequalities to ultimately improve ability of individuals to practice positive health-seeking and self-care behaviors of the project. This will support the local government to increase access to high quality comprehensive and integrated health service delivery for preventative and curative services with regard to Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH). The focus is on reproductive maternal, newborn, children and adolescents health outcomes.
USAID Afya Yangu-RMNCAH project is aimed to make an impact by focusing on removing barriers to access to health and promoting health seeking behaviors through gender-norm dialogues in the community groups and Social Behavior Change (SBC) campaigns using Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials and mass media. The expected results are to improve access to quality, client centered Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) services, to improve ability of individuals to practice positive health-seeking and self-care behaviors and to enhance enabling environment for quality Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) service provision.
KIZAZI HODARI Northeastern zone unique approaches
- Kizazi Hodari NEZ is a child-focused and family centered project with the main goal of improving health,well being and protection of orphans and vulnerable children(OVC) and youth aged 0-17 in high HIV burden communities along four key domain which are health,safety,schooling and stability.
- Kizazi Hodari NEZ utilizes faith community engagement plaforms as an approach to promote bahavior change at community level hence facilitating the identification of OVC, prevention and response to HIV and GBV/VAC
- The project also employ palliative care principles in providing psychosocial support among OVC,AGYW,ABYM and caregivers
Currently , the project operates in 41 council within 9 regions of Tanzania Mainland
HOW THE PROJECT OPERATES.
The projects directly being implemented by ELCT’s two operating wings in region of Arusha and Singida,Also the project is being implemented indirectly through 7 national implementing partners. RAFIKI SDO in Mara, ELCT-ELVD in Mwanza, MOCSO in Mwanza, NAFGEM in Kilimanjaro, ACC in Dodoma, SHEPHA+ in Geita and PASADIT in Tanga.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES.
- Increase use of OVC platforms for pediatric HIV case findings, linkage and viral suppression.
- Increase access to HIV prevention, violence prevention and response services for orphans and vulnerable children(OVC) and Youth.
- Improved social economic capacity of risk young women(AGYW) and OVC caregivers.
